Case Study

Colossal Sports Management

This fresh new football management agency with big ambitions approached us with an open brief. They wanted a website that would work as an effective portfolio of their players and wow the competition. Showcasing video, social media content and up to date player statistics was their objective.

We decided the focal point for the website would be the players. With names such as Raheem Sterling and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain on their books we could create something visually stunning, by pulling on strong photographic resources.

On top of this, we developed a unique application that displays live player career statistics which animate on loading with a variety of layouts to accommodate the different types of players. All of this capability was wrapped up with a CMS for Colossal to keep their website up to date.

Strategy, planning and execution

With so much of this project depending on the fine balance between visual experience and functionality we spent valuable time prototyping the design and backend code.

Image led

With great players comes great photography and the whole purpose of the website was to essentially promote the players. To honour this, we focused on the player imagery as a way to tell their story.

Visual Story

Telling the story of each player required a mix of content research by our copywriter and some interesting infographics.

We also created an animated timeline that allows Colossal to show the history of their players from the start of their careers to the present day.

As well as showing current season stats we built in the ability to pick and display historic player statistics with a simple and easy to use interface.

Finally, we ensured the website was optimised as a digital experience, working as seamlessly and beautifully on on all devices, whether that be desktop, tablet or mobile phone.

They Say

  • "We have worked with 1721 Studio for over four years now and in that time they have helped us to build a new brand, rebrand, build another brand, design a website, design another website, the list goes on! We're a recruitment agency and it's clear that 1721 really understand what we need in the "Recruiter's Toolkit."

Both Neil and Ken were exceptionally helpful, communicated effectively and worked to our tight deadlines. Their concepts and designs were more than we had hoped for and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. If you are looking for some talented creative minds and all round nice chaps to work with 1721 should be top of your list."

  • "We were recommended Neil as we looked to undertake a complete brand and website redesign. We couldn't be happier with the results and the process. Neil and his team understood the brief clearly and their approach was open and flexible. As with any project of this nature there were bumps along the way, and Neil couldn't have been more accommodating to assist and make changes. Thanks Neil!"

    Andrew Maeer

  • "I hired 1721 during 2019 when I was Chief Executive of Dstl, the Science & technology research arm of Ministry of Defence, to modernise our brand in line with delivering against a new strategy and capturing the essence our purpose and values. 1721 were a joy to work with, taking time to understand who we are and what we wanted to transmit through our brand. They developed 3 alternatives and worked with my leadership team to develop and fine tune into the end result, a full brand toolkit which is now fully deployed and evident across all print and social media channels of the organisation. The project was a huge success, helping to attract new talent to a growing organisation and helping to revitalise Dstl’s reputation across MOD, wider Government and beyond. I would recommend 1721 without hesitation. They take time to understand the client, patiently work to develop alternatives and nothing was too much for them as we “tweaked” the concepts multiple times towards the end result. We appreciated their professionalism, expertise, challenge, insights and creativity; clients will enjoy the process of working with and be delighted with the results."
