Objectives

Longtime client, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service was approaching a merger with the Isle of Wight Fire. Opening a consultation with 1721 Studio around the brand identity, the original challenge was to make 2 badges work alongside each other. We persuaded both fire authorities that to make this work and to bring on board all their stakeholders, a new, unified badge was the way forward.

Strategy

Researching the heritage of both authorities we built a new unified badge and identity system that contained valid references to both authorities, offering both a diplomatic and aesthetic solution. Once the brand was completed, we moved onto the implementation. A significant part of this was to develop a new digital strategy at the core of which a new, versatile, information first website.

Social Strategy

It is important for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service to stay in touch with the public. One of the ways they do this is with an active, versatile and strong social media presence. During the implementation of their new identity system, we built their internal comms team a new social media pack and provided guidance on what sort of templates they should use and in what instances.

Digital Strategy

As part of the brand development, we worked with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service to build a new website.

Primarily the website is used as a public facing forum of information. Content planning came first, with detailed discussions around content management requirements. They need the CMS to be easy to use, offer a very simple interface for the varied skill levels of users within the organisation, whilst providing versatile layout options for building their content.

Exterior Vision

Working with the Estates team, we built a new signage and exterior graphics solution for all of the Fire Authority buildings. We created a rules based system of way finding built from the new identity system. The result is an effective, professional presence that is easy to navigate and maintains a strong consistency, instantly recognisable.
